As the state of Georgia continues to grow
and prosper in the area of economic
development, south metro Atlanta including
Fayette and Coweta counties is quickly
becoming a leader in attracting new
industry worldwide. Officials in both
counties work hard to ensure that the
future is bright for their residents and
steps are taken to continue building a
sound tax base for residents in Coweta and
Fayette.
As Coweta County's population approaches
90,000, it remains as not only one of the
state's fastest-growing counties, but
among the fastest growing in the country.
But this "growth" is not limited to that
of residential but new business and
industry. Corporations are looking at
Coweta County to locate their
headquarters, distribution facilities and
offices. In the retail arena, the surge in
population makes the county an attractive
destination for restaurants, super
centers, chain department stores and more.
Industry leaders are offered locales of
approximately 3,000 acres specifically set
aside for industrial and business parks,
an abundant and diverse workforce
resource, a thriving railway system and an
easy interstate access to Atlanta's air
transportation hub. Shenandoah Industrial
and Business Park and Creekside Business
and Industrial Center are home to such
corporate giants as Yamaha Motor
Manufacturing Corporation; Kawasaki
Loaders, Yokagawa Corporation of America;
Kmart Southeast Distribution Center;
William Bonnell Company and the Eckerd
Drug Company Southeast Distribution
Center.
The Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce was
organized in 1947 and works exclusively
with existing businesses and industry in
the county to help promote the company's
individual success and expansion. The
Chamber's mission includes the promotion
of business and economic well being in the
county and the enhancement of the area's
quality of life. Local entrepreneurs are
encouraged to help design chamber programs
that will be beneficial to local
businesses. For information on the
Newnan-Coweta County Chamber's activities
and opportunities, call 770-253-2270 or

Newcomer information is available at
the Coweta County Welcome Center. The
Center is located at 100 Walt Sanders
Memorial Drive (Whitlock Recreation
Complex on E. Hwy. 34) in Newnan. It's
open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
A public private partnership called 21st
Century Coweta was formed in 1995 to
market Coweta County for new business and
industry development.
The community leaders of 21st Century
Coweta have been forewarned of the growth
problems experienced by other Atlanta area
counties coping with population
explosions. To meet these challenges, the
group has specific goals for recruiting
businesses that will expand the tax base
and assure quality growth. Newnan
Utilities plays a strong role in the
economy of the area. The Company has
developed a space-age project that can
place a two-way telecommunication and a
computer system into every area home.
There is a widely held belief in Coweta
County that this project will bring
families and the community closer together
by quickly and efficiently offering
citizens the amazing benefits of the new
information age. Newnan Utilities is
offering a Fiber Optic based Broadband
Network. This system consists of nearly
100 television channels, providing the
highest quality of reception. It also
offers a flat rate of unlimited Internet
access 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and
allows telephone lines to be freed up by a
direct access through the company's cable
lines. This access is 100 times faster
than a 14.4 modem. The county continues to
rise in hospitality, welcoming new
businesses and industries to an area large
in beauty yet one that plans to never lose
its small-town charm.
